Open House 2026
Are you working on your family history? The Genealogical Forum of Oregon(GFO) is hosting an Open House this week with free hybrid (in person and online) classes.
The GFO is located at 2505 S.E. 11th Ave., Ste B018 in Portland, but you can attend the hybrid classes in your own home – with Zoom.

1:00 am to 12:00 pm Bureaucracy to the Rescue: Unlocking Family Mysteries with State Records (hybrid)
Crystal Hicks, Head of Collections, Washington State Library will share information about what is available at the Washington State Library.
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Using Homestead Records in Genealogy: Four Case Studies (hybrid) Ralph Thonstad Homestead records can provide a wealth of surprising information about your family that you would never expect! Learn why you should not overlook these records if your family ever applied for a homestead.
For those of you who have French-Canadian ancestors, you can apply for Canadian citizenship.On December 15, 2025, Bill C-3 was enacted in Canada, removing the first-generation limit on citizenship by descent and offering a path to citizenship for so-called “Lost Canadians”
4:00 pm Library Tour and Orientation (online) For this one and only session, we are offering the library tour online as an experiment.

Cherry Blossom Day at the Capitol Link

The third Saturday of March, by state statute, is Cherry Blossom Day at the capitol. Celebrate spring, the blossoming cherry trees in the Capitol Mall, and the impact of Japanese culture on our state. We will be celebrating with education, activities, and performances from 10am to 2pm. Free and open to the public.
